When the owner of Machete Sisters recording studios, Hani Zahra, decided to cover David Bowie’s “Space Oddity” as precisely as possible for a performance and production exercise and as an homage to the late star, I knew it was time to break out the video synthesizer and make a weird ass video. I concepted, directed, style and shot this in Hani’s Brooklyn studio to pay similar homage to the homemade, music-studio-as-spaceship feel of Bowie’s original video produced & directed by Mick Rock in 1972.
